FAQ
Q: What is Available Discounts?
A: Available Discounts is a sustainability-focused blog exploring how we can move away from overconsumption and toward a world where useful things stay in circulation.
The site explores ideas around conscious consumption, resale, reuse, repurposing, waste reduction, product life cycles, and the systems that shape how we produce, use, and dispose of things.
It is written for anyone interested in creating a more sustainable future, including sustainability-conscious sellers and people working in fields such as architecture, engineering, urban planning, development, product design, manufacturing, and waste management.
Q: Why is it called Available Discounts?
A: The name goes beyond discounts on prices.
Available Discounts is about the reductions that are available when we rethink consumption: less waste, less unnecessary production, less disposal, and a smaller environmental footprint.
It is about discovering the opportunities we already have to do things differently.
Q: Do you sell products on this website?
A: Available Discounts is primarily a blog, not an online store. I sometimes link to items I am selling through marketplaces such as eBay and Poshmark, but I do not publish full product listings here or process purchases directly through this website.
Q: Why do you write about resale and used products?
A: Resale is one practical way to keep useful products in circulation.
I practice these ideas myself as a seller and in my own consumption choices. But Available Discounts goes beyond individual resale. It explores the larger cultural and systemic changes that could help reduce overconsumption and keep more useful goods in circulation.
Q: What kinds of topics do you cover?
A: You'll find ideas and conversations about conscious consumption, resale, reuse, upcycling, product longevity, waste reduction, circular systems, sustainable commerce, and the environmental consequences of overproduction.
I also explore ideas that could inspire sustainability projects, policies, products, businesses, and community systems.
Q: Who is Available Discounts written for?
A: Anyone who cares about sustainability is welcome here.
But I especially hope to reach people who have the ability to turn ideas into action: sustainability professionals, architects, engineers, developers, city planners, product designers, manufacturers, waste-management professionals, entrepreneurs, sellers, and others working to shape a more sustainable future.
If an idea here makes you think, “We could actually do something with this,” then you're exactly the kind of reader I hope to reach.
Q: Are you presenting these ideas as proven solutions?
A: Not necessarily.
Available Discounts is a place for ideas, observations, questions, and possibilities. Some ideas may already exist in practice, while others are concepts worth exploring, testing, researching, or developing.
The goal is to encourage conversation and creative thinking around what a more sustainable future could look like.
Q: Can I subscribe?
A: Absolutely. If the ideas here resonate with the work you're doing or the future you're trying to build, I hope you'll subscribe and stay connected.
My hope is that Available Discounts becomes a place you return to for inspiration, encouragement, and new ways of thinking about sustainability.
Q: Where can I find the items you're selling?
A: When I have an item for sale that relates to something I'm writing about, I may link to its marketplace listing. Purchases are completed through the marketplace where the item is listed, such as eBay or Poshmark.
I am the seller of my own resale items, while the marketplace handles the checkout and transaction process.
